Coupon Codes 

Coupon codes can be very useful if you're running campaigns and need a large amount of promo codes. So rather than creating hundreds of coupons in Chargebee, you can create a single coupon, configure its behavior and upload your coupons codes in bulk to it.

Coupon codes are collectively referred to as coupon sets. All the coupon codes in a coupon set will have the same behavior as the main coupon they're linked to.

The coupon codes can be uploaded into your Chargebee site using a CSV file.

To upload, go to Product Catalog > Coupon Sets > Click + Upload Coupon sets, select the CSV file and the main coupon that the coupon set should be linked to.

Classic UI Users
Navigate to Product Catalog > Coupon Sets > Click Upload Coupon Codes and then proceed as above.

Coupon code file format 

  1. The coupon codes should be in a CSV file format and should ONLY contain the coupon codes.
  2. Coupon codes should not contain any special characters. Only letters and numbers are allowed.
  3. Coupon codes in the file should be unique. You will not be able to upload a coupon code if the same code already exists on your site.

Note

There is a limit of 1000 coupon codes per coupon set. If you need to upload more, create another CSV file and upload the rest as another coupon set.

Coupon code behavior 

  1. Coupon codes mirror the behavior of the main coupon they are linked to.
  2. Coupon codes can applied on the sign up page and also through the API.
  3. Even if a coupon set has been linked to the main coupon, you can still apply the main coupon to subscriptions. If you do not want this to happen, you need to make sure the main coupon code is not known to anyone else.
  4. A coupon code can only be applied to a single subscription, and cannot be redeemed more than once.
  5. The number of coupon codes that can be redeemed within a coupon set depends on the main coupon's maximum redemption value and redemption count.
Example

If the main coupon's redemption limit is 10 and the coupon set consists of a 100 coupon codes, you will only be able to apply 10 coupon codes from the set. You can however change the main coupon's redemption limit by editing it at any time.

Also, if the main coupon's redemption limit is 10 and it has already been redeemed 9 times, only 1 coupon code from the linked coupon set can be redeemed. But you can always edit the main coupon's redemption count to increase or decrease it when needed.

  1. When deleting a coupon set, unused coupon codes will be deleted and used ones will be archived.
  2. Similarly if the main coupon is archived, unused coupon codes will be deleted and used coupon codes will be archived.
